組織病理特徵 (Histopathology)

梭形細胞變異型 (spindled cell variant) 的特徵為細胞具有細長、狹窄、漸尖的細胞質突起 (cytoplasmic processes)；在無色素 (nonpigmented) 變異型中，可能與間葉源性 (mesenchymal derivation) 細胞混淆，因而被誤診為多種軟組織腫瘤 (soft tissue neoplasms)。

偶有 melanoma 表現極度的多形性 (pleomorphic)，含有具增大核仁的腫瘤巨細胞 (tumor giant cells)，並出現顯著、且常為異常的有絲分裂相 (mitotic figures)；這些變異型有時必須與轉移性腫瘤 (metastatic tumors) 區別，包括多形性的轉移性癌 (pleomorphic secondary carcinoma)、肉瘤 (sarcomas)，甚至退行性的 CD30+ anaplastic large cell lymphoma (Figs 26.40–26.42)。
