Histologically, solitary fibrous tumor resembles those seen in the pleura, composed of spindle cells and thin, parallel collagen bands. The cells may be arranged in short, ill-defined fascicles or randomly in a โpatternless patternโ. Areas of hyalinization are usually present. By immunohistochemistry, solitary fibrous tumor is typically positive for CD34, Bcl2, CD99, and vimentin and negative for desmin, cytokeratin, S100 protein, and muscle-specific actin and smooth muscle actin.2
