Neutrophilic sebaceous adenitis

Neutrophilic sebaceous adenitis

Clinical features Neutrophilic sebaceous adenitis is a very rare condition presenting as erythematous circinate plaques with a raised edge with predilection for the face and upper chest.1,2 Papules and pustules may be seen. There is no sex predilection, and lesions may rarely present on vulva.3 Spontaneous regression tends to occur.

Pathogenesis and histologic features The pathogenesis is unknown, and light and Demodex have been suggested as possibly linked with the etiology of the process but there is limited evidence to support this.4,5

Histologically, there is a mixed infiltrate with predominance of neutrophils and centered around the sebaceous gland is identified. Neutrophils infiltrate the sebaceous lobules and ducts, and necrosis of sebocytes may be seen.
