Postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, of non-melanocytic etiology, following an inflammatory dermatosis such as LP is the most common cause of genital pigmentation. However, only melanocytic causes of genital pigmentation are discussed here. They may be difficult to differentiate clinically and, although dermoscopy is of emerging utility, histology is usually needed.1
