Pilonidal sinus
Pilonidal sinus
Clinical features This condition mainly occurs in the sacrococcygeal region and has only rarely been reported as occurring in the penis.1โ8 Only about 20 cases have been reported in the literature. Lesions present in uncircumcised adults with a predilection for the dorsal aspect of the coronal sulcus. It has been postulated that penile pilonidal sinus develops because the coronal sulcus acts as a cleft where hairs can accumulate and eventually penetrate the shaft and the foreskin as a result of friction between these two surfaces. The symptoms are those of chronic inflammation and abscess formation. Pilonidal sinus has been associated with actinomycosis, SCC, and verrucous carcinoma.1,8โ10
