Pilonidal sinus

Pilonidal sinus

Clinical features This condition mainly occurs in the sacrococcygeal region and has only rarely been reported as occurring in the penis.1โ€“8 Only about 20 cases have been reported in the literature. Lesions present in uncircumcised adults with a predilection for the dorsal aspect of the coronal sulcus. It has been postulated that penile pilonidal sinus develops because the coronal sulcus acts as a cleft where hairs can accumulate and eventually penetrate the shaft and the foreskin as a result of friction between these two surfaces. The symptoms are those of chronic inflammation and abscess formation. Pilonidal sinus has been associated with actinomycosis, SCC, and verrucous carcinoma.1,8โ€“10
